My mum was admitted up to 1 South after another fall. Yes, 2 serious falls in the last 12 weeks. Where do I start...
Unfortunately on the Thurs eve I asked to speak to the nurse who was in charge of mum for the day. A staff member came over to me and Aunt was present too. Their bad posture straight away put me totally off and confused in what I had to ask them about progress on my mum.
As I have 3 other live siblings we have been taking our turn to visit mum from her accident 12 weeks ago. I simply asked this staff member if there were any updates on mum. Well what an attitude came with their response and posture still very bad ( seemingly not interested one bit in talking to me). Their answer was that they told my sister all this afternoon. But my visit was later. I was actually shocked by their attitude as well as their response. I lost my trail of thought. As i'm next of kin i'm trying to keep up to date with all my family concerns as they arise about mum. I should have stopped them in talking but i was shocked really.
I called a meeting with them as i was so so annoyed at the way they spoke to me in front of my mum with delirium & 2 head injuries, and also my Aunt. I expressed my concerns of the way they spoke so loudly that all of 1 South probably heard them, their attitude as a member of staff. I also explained I meant any updates from previous visit. We were waiting to see where the infection was.
On another occasion they also stated to my sister too that mum is better when we are not there. Now I feel this is absolutely disgraceful behaviour from a senior member of a ward, especially when all my family have been so so worried about our mum.
Throughout, my mum's stay in 1 South was a disgrace on top of having to deal with this staff member most of the time.
- Mum's nightdress sitting in a ball on her chair at evening time. Sitting there from morning.
- Mum's blue sling not clicked in after having an elbow replacement 3 weeks ago.
- On an afternoon visit a tablet sitting on top of mum's side table. I approached a member of staff to ask about it and was told they took out 2 instead of 1....Sorry but why do meds be locked away then if a staff member can't be bothered to keep measures in place.
- I asked 3 nurses and a Ward Manager on my mums 2nd last day to request a new neck brace sponge as there were food stains on it. Due to mum's fall she is unable to feed herself at the moment. I actually had to ask a high up nurse from ICU if she could ask physio to supply new brace. This lovely member of staff actually listened to me and got 1 herself.
- Another patient was admitted too during my mum's stay- 3 beds in a double bed ward. Disgrace.
- Two of the doctors were very good in their job role with mum in 1 South. I thank them both.
I hope that my mum or any other member of my family never ever be admitted to 1 south in the very near future. In my opinion, the ward was an absolute disgrace. We were only a number in that ward unfortunately not a human being with needs.
