I felt quite sure I had a chest infection. This has been recurring for a few years on a regular basis.
I was coughing a lot and bringing up mucous. My daughter handed in a sputum sample to my GP. I had standby antibiotics, so started taking them. Didn’t help a lot. I got the sputum test result in a week's time. It showed I had a bacterial infection. I was unaware I also had Covid.
I tested positive a few days later. I have COPD. I was feeling quite ill I phoned my GP and they told me to come to the surgery. While there they made a phone call. I didn’t know who they were speaking to. It was Hospital at Home.
This was at 4pm and the nurses arrived at my home at 6pm. They had oxygen with them and set it up for me. They took blood, checked my blood pressure and pulse, sounded my back and chest. Gave me an ECG. All in the comfort of my own home.
The nurses were so kind, caring and knowledgeable. They had all the equipment to hand. I couldn’t believe I was getting this care. It was wonderful and put me at my ease. In hospital I’m permanently anxious.
