I was delighted to receive a letter for my continence assessment appointment with the Continence Service. I had a form to complete each day for three days prior to my visit. A fluid intake and output chart basically. As I sat in the waiting area of Portadown Health Centre with my paperwork in hand I realised there were instructions on the reverse of the sheet I had filled in with the instructions on how to complete it. Oh dear I thought, I have not completed this properly. At my appointment time I was called by the Sister and taken through to a consulting room. I apologised for not having seen the instructions and she was fine about it. I was asked many questions about my general health, medications etc. She really put me at ease and she was very easy to talk to. My urine sample that I had brought with me was tested and was fine. The Sister asked me to go to the toilet to empty my bladder prior to an Ultrasound scan. When the scan was completed she talked to me about options like bladder training. I felt very relaxed throughout. It was nice to get to speak to someone who had great knowledge on this what I find to be a very embarrassing subject. She has given me hope that I might be able to improve my situation over a period of time.
"given me hope"
