"Behaviour of staff"

About: Lurgan Hospital / Radiology

(as a service user),

I was referred to the X-ray department in Lurgan hospital a while ago. I arrived early so I stayed in my car and did some emails, the entire time I was there and after I left the car at 9:15 there was a person smoking in their car beside me.

While I was waiting for my X-ray the same person arrived into the department with a container of food and proceed to eat while apologising to the staff for being late. After my x-ray while I was getting changed I could hear staff saying the person I'd seen was away for a smoke, when I arrived to my car there they were, smoking in the car! They hadn’t even been in work 30 minutes.

A few weeks later I then brought my mother to the same department for an X-ray and the same person was there yet again eating their breakfast at the desk. After my mother's X-ray she was not informed about how to get her results so I enquired at the desk, the member of staff on reception called a name and they were not about, to which they said while winking that they must have gone out for some fresh air again.

I work in the private sector and this would never be tolerated - being late, eating breakfast while working, and what seems unlimited smoke breaks.

Good afternoon craterdh84

Thank you for taking the time to post this feedback and apologies for the delay in responding to you. I am the Principal Lead Radiographer covering the Lurgan Hospital site. I apologize in relation to the conduct of staff on your visit to Lurgan Hospital and I have addressed your concerns in the following way:

I have informed all staff reminding them:

Punctuality is very important as it affects patients and colleagues. There is a no smoking policy within the Southern Trust, and this includes smoking in cars on Trust property About the allocation of staff breaks and I have also reminded them to have their break in the designated area

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.

Ann Tate

Principal Lead Radiographer
