"They gave me informed but non-judgemental advice"

About: Fife Community Services / Breast Feeding Support Service

(as a service user),

I am mum to two babies - one (2.5) was a preemie, the other (8w) was born at term. Both born via c-section, so my milk took a while to come in, during which time both lost more weight than planned.

The team at Breastfeeding Support Fife reached out immediately with my first - they attended my house several times over the first few days to help me help him to latch, and stayed with me to make sure he was feeding properly. They sat with me through my hormonal meltdowns where I thought I was an inadequate mum, and they gave me informed but non-judgmental advice, support and equipment when I needed it most.

When I had my second baby, my first call upon being discharged from hospital was to Breastfeeding Support, as I knew they were best placed to help me ensure that I was doing everything possible to get breastfeeding off to a good start.

They've been amazing with checking in on me and baby, even though everything is going well and I'm probably not a priority, they make me feel valued and like they have as much time for me as I need.

Dear Fife mum of two

My name is Siobhan McIlroy and I am the head of patient experience. I am sorry for the late response to your story.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. It’s clear how much the Breastfeeding Support Fife team has meant to you throughout your journey with both of your babies. It’s wonderful to hear that their prompt, compassionate support helped you navigate the challenges of breastfeeding after both of your c-sections, and that they provided not only practical guidance but also emotional reassurance when you needed it most.

It’s heartening to know that they were there for you again with your second baby, and that their continued check-ins have made you feel valued, even when things were going well.

Your story highlights just how important this team is, not only for the practical support they provide but also for the care and empathy they show to every mum.

Thank you for sharing such a powerful testament to their dedication, and we wish you and your little ones all the best!

Best wishes, Siobhan
