"Kind and capable team at endoscopy unit"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Endoscopy Unit

(as a service user),

I was a little apprehensive about this procedure but, from the minute I walked in, the staff were lovely. The receptionist welcomed me and just  few seconds later, a lovely nurse named Mercy took me through the admissions procedure.

After that I was brought to a room to get changed into a garment that covered everything (thank god) and before I knew it, Dr Rafferty had called to walk me up to the room where the procedure would take place.

The procedure was uncomfortable and at worst, a little painful but I'm glad I didn't have sedation or gas and air because the nurses, Bernie, Richelle and Shona and I chatted about my recent trip to India but, most importantly, Dr Rafferty was kind enough to explain what I could see on the monitor - I was fascinated. The whole thing took about 20 minutes.  I felt completely at ease even though 4 people had full view of my back side... a sight not for the fainthearted!

In recovery, I was met by Darling who checked my vitals and got me dressed then Hazel came along to complete the admin side of things and to offer me tea and toast. Hazel chatted away as well and made sure that I knew what had just happened and what I should do if anything went wrong when I got home.

I felt in extremely capable hands throughout this journey which lasted 75 minutes from the minute I went in until I left.

My only issue was that I was given toast with little butter packs and a wooden knife to do everything myself but, because I struggle with dexterity, buttering my toast was quite a task. I wish they'd have done it for me, which, based on previous experience that's what usually happens.

I know that if I had asked though, that the staff would have helped me.  They were all so lovely.

Good afternoon,

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a beautiful message for us following your recent visit to RVH Endoscopy. I am very glad to see that your visit was a positive experience and that you felt that you were very well looked after.

Coming to hospital is never an easy time, so it is good to hear when our efforts make a difference. Our team try their very best to support every individual patient and I will pass your thanks and praise on to all the staff mentioned in you message to us.

As for the toast and butter, I will ask our staff to make an offer of support to each patient as they set it on the table in front of them...so that anyone requiring help going forward will get the support they need. The tea and toast is usually the best part of coming to hospital so apologies for that. Such a simple task and a simple change but we only know about things like this when we get feedback, so thanks for the advice. We are always striving to improve our service.

Thanks again for leaving your lovely comment and can we wish you all the best for the future.

Kind Regards

Heather
