Can I please request that the following is passed to the relevant line manager of our health visitor Jane primarily, and her colleague Jacqueline, based at High Valleyfield health centre.
We would like to formally acknowledge the efforts Jane has made and just how much she has helped us in the first few weeks of parenthood. We had chosen to breastfeed however, this became unmanageable as it was clear our baby was struggling with reflux and possibly cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA).
This combined with the usual sleep deprivation proved challenging. Jane recognised this. By providing initial advice/support/signposting on breast feeding before ultimately non judgementally supporting us with our decision to switch to formula feeding.
Jane also advised on methods to help combat the reflux and when it became clear there may be a CMPA, she assisted in getting Nutramigen and gaviscon prescribed. She bridged the gap between us and the GP to get this done as quickly as possible (we were told by the GP surgery it would not be possible to get a prescription until her birth was registered).
Jane further supported us by arranging weekly visits. In short, she has been fantastic and her wealth of knowledge has put us at ease from day one.
We required to make a hasty Friday afternoon call to Jacqueline when our baby would not take any of her prescribed medication. Jacqueline openly listened to our concerns, acknowledged them and signposted to direct care quickly and effectively meeting our needs at that time. Once again, our minds were put at ease with her manner and willingness to help us! But most of all, getting our daughter treated.
Overall, this has been such a positive experience of care and support from Jane and Jacqueline. We just wanted to put something in writing in the hope they get some form of recognition for their essential role as our health visitors. At a time when the NHS is under increased scrutiny and so much is expected of staff, both of these ladies are a fantastic example of professionalism and dedication to their jobs.
"A fantastic health visiting team"
