I'm in agony. All. The. Time. I went to my GP 4 years ago with a sore hip. I got an X-ray. I was told the pain was due to wear & tear. In July last year after various visits to my GP and referral to a physio, I was sent for another X-ray. The X-ray revealed chronic arthritis. I have no cartilage in my right hip. The doctor said that this was acute and an emergency. I had to be wheeled into my appointment!
I live in alone in an upstairs flat. Some days I'm house-bound. Like many pensioners, I'm working. Today I couldn't due to the pain. I was afraid to attempt to get downstairs. Not only is this a painful disability but also affects me economically. Since I have State pension and a small amount of work pension I don't qualify for any benefits. Winter is coming and I'll have to heat my home or stay in bed all the time. My mental health is suffering as it is. I'm in my late 60s.
Where's the Care for Older people? Please can someone help me? My right knee is under strain as it tries to cope with bearing more weight than it should. My back is painful as is my whole right leg due to the deteriorated hip. It will cost the NHS much more unless my hip can be replaced soon. I was told I was on the emergency list. I've agreed to go anywhere in Scotland to get the operation. I've been prescribed medication which makes me sick. Yet refused pain patches or gel which are much better. I have to buy Voltarol (or similar) just to cope. Help!
I need:
a] Help to understand the process of moving up the list. Apparently I'm on the Emergency list (since July). I've had no contact or information from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary since that time.
b] An explanation of the criteria which decides when I'll get my operation and where (in Scotland)
c] Information of how my pain levels, risk & reduction of function would allow me to move up the list and where I am on the list.
My balance is affected and I've had two falls (thankfully on soft surfaces). If I break my hip it will be a much more serious problem with higher costs and greater risks. How soon can I expect a new hip before the situation becomes a crisis? My Blood Pressure is now too high. It never was before. I need some communication and support
