"Excellent care from staff at the surgery and hospital"

About: Fife Community Services / Community Treatment and Care (CTAC) General practices in Fife Victoria Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

Following a nurse's opinion on a routine visit to the surgery, I was treated in Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline for an umbilical hernia.

Unfortunately there were complications & I was rushed in the middle of the night to The Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy where I spent the following week. I was allowed home with a drain attached and was progressing well, then I started to feel really unwell, saw the doctor & was immediately readmitted to the hospital. Following a scan an ulcer had developed within a fold of the hernia operation site. This was fully flushed out & another week was spent in the hospital. During this time I was given a CT scan and was told that there appeared to be a dark mass on one of my kidneys.  Arrangements were then made for me to have the kidney removed a few weeks later. This operation was then performed.

Throughout all this I experienced excellent care from the staff at the surgery and all the hospital staff. Had this mass on my kidney not been discovered I could have ended up being very unwell.

Shortly after recovering from the operations I developed ulcerated legs. Once more the nurses at the surgery, particularly the vascular nurses were wonderful doing twice weekly dressings and then supplying the necessary support stockings.

Most recently I had occasion to see Doctor Wakefield and all the necessary follow up of X-rays etc. happened quite quickly, including a blood test with Elaine the CTAC nurse at Crossgates Surgery. Again I had excellent care and compassion shown by all staff. The village of Crossgates has expanded quite considerably over the last 5 years, resulting in it being difficult to see a doctor, but from my own experience I have been treated extremely well by all the Crossgates Medical Practice Team.
