"Contacting my GP I was met with compassion"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as the patient),

I have spent more of my life in pain than not, in recent years I was awaiting orthopaedic surgery and during the pandemic my appts were cancelled and surgery waiting list getting longer. I ended up in hospital due to some complications and had to stop taking certain pain relief. I was discharged and handed back to my GP, I was in extreme pain due to these changes.

Contacting my GP I was met with compassion, I felt listened to and supported. My GP spoke with my husband as well to get a full picture of my day to day. He took me on a pain journey plan, better than I’d ever had in all my life up until that point. He took the time to try things and found medication that worked for me. He then referred me to the chronic pain team who were also incredible.

Our GP’s are often getting a hard time at the moment and I wanted to shine a light on the fact that there are some fantastic GP’s within GG&C, with mine being one of them.

I’ve now had my surgery which my GP also helped with getting me up the wait list as an emergency patient due to the impact on my life and raising my young son. This is thankfully now in the past for me, but I wouldn’t be so well now without such excellent care.
