"Lack of support or help after my c-section"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Maternity care

(as the patient),

In recent months I have delivered a baby via caesarean section at the QEUH.

As the ward was very busy, due to high acuity and lack of staff, my care was unfortunately disappointing and lacking. I had no 1-1 delivery of care, I was never shown how to handle, swaddle, or change the nappy of my baby. I was also not regularly checked up on regarding my bleeding postpartum and feeding my baby.

I was understanding that the ward was very busy, but I was also post pre-eclampsia and I didn’t feel as my concerns I raised were listened to. This made me demand an earlier discharge from hospital as I had no direct care with my set midwife.

This has made me reconsider where I would deliver another baby in the future.

Dear nursingcare01,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience here at the QEUH Maternity Unit and congratulations on the birth of your baby.

I am sorry to read that you did not receive the support you needed following the birth of your baby for our teams. It is always our aim to ensure that we provide kind, compassionate care and support for all women and their babies and I am sorry that this has not been the case.

If it would be helpful, if you contact me directly via the email address below, I can investigate your concerns further.

Many thanks again,

Gaynor
