"Feedback for health visiting services"

About: Adult Health Services / Breastfeeding Support service Coatbridge Locality Support Service / Health Visiting Team

(as a parent/guardian),

I have had great care throughout my experience with the nurses and health visitors within the team of NHS North Lanarkshire.

One concern was raised, that only 1 nurse was giving immunisations, meanwhile it should be 2. The nurse was extremely professional and apologetic that it was just herself delivering the care, as she was also aware this was incorrect care. The NHS is under full stress and lack of nursing staff, but the nurses are being made to do more than their job capacity and this should be rethought of via NHS Lanarkshire.

My 2nd is about the Breastfeeding Clinic weekly weigh ins. As a mum who tried breastfeeding and was unsuccessful for many reasons, started with combination feeding and now has continues fully formula feeding, I think it is wrong that you are only able to attend the “Breastfeeding Clinic” if you are a “Breastfeeding” mum. I would love to have my baby weighed regularly as drop in service, and talk to a Health Visitor/nurse professional more often than the monthly check ins at the house.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your families experience. I am delighted to hear that you have had great care from our Coatbridge Health Visiting team.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience at immunisations clinic, we do require two staff members for pre school booster immunisations at 3 years and 4 months, all other immunisations are from sole immunisers. If you wish to discuss further please call me on 01698754724.

Sorry to hear this has been your experience at our groups. Our universal health visiting pathway is a home visiting programme therefore, we don't run any clinics. Our breastfeeding support group should not be used as a 'weight drop in' the purpose of this group is to offer support and your health visitor should be available for home visiting. Mothers who are formula or mixed feeding their baby are also welcome to attend for any advice and support.

Thank you again for bringing these issue to our attention, this ensures we are considering all care we provide, to make sure its appropriate for all.

I wish you and your family well.

Kind regards,

Natalie Kearney

Interim Health visiting team leader
