I was a patient here and honestly I debated leaving and walking out which would leave me to suffer the intense pain I am experiencing myself. I'm autistic and I handle pain different from others. I try distract myself with sound and movement. My pain was unbearable and some of the nurses were amazing, but one was not. I was having difficulty going to the toilet and when I told the nurse it wasn't working - they laughed and just said to try turning the tap on and sitting there.
Later that evening I was again in unbearable pain and I tensed up. I didn't want to speak I wanted to work through it, I knew I'd already been given painkillers. The first two nurses were amazing and gave me time. Then the same one from earlier showed up and commented that they'd seen me do this the day before, and that it was "ridiculous", then walked away.
On returned said I needed to speak instead of making sounds and tensing. I then overheard them say in a offputting tone to others that I had already been given paracetamol - I was aware of this.
I would rather have been at home and suffered myself than deal with the unkindness on this ward. I wanted home.
