"Kindness, compassion and empathy"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Plastic Surgery & Burns Paediatrics / Children's Ward 29

(as a parent/guardian),

The last few days have been a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions. I am so proud of my Son and his bravery after injuring his finger resulting in an open fracture.

My Son got home from Ninewells after his operation and I am so grateful for all those who have been there for the both of us.

The kindness, compassion and reassurance of all those at Ninewells; the domestic assistants, porters, nurses on Ward 29, doctors and theatre staff who all showed compassion and empathy from the start of our journey to the end.

A special Thank You to our Plastic Surgeon, Mr Bonner, who reached out to me just before the operation to let me know he would be doing procedure and that my Son was in safe hands. I am also very appreciative of the Anaesthetist Rebecca who had a great conversation with my Son about anaesthetic and provided him with comfort and also education along the way! All this made a difference!

My Son also wanted to let you all know despite being in hospital he had a great time in the Playroom and enjoyed meeting the Play Therapists who go out of their way to make the experience of being on the ward as reassuring and normal as possible.

It is strange being on the other side of the NHS and having your own child and You going through a traumatic injury. It is lovely to know that kindness, compassion and empathy continues to be embroidered into the care delivered and received.
