"The service is beyond invaluable"

About: Fife Community Services / Breast Feeding Support Service Queen Margaret Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I have had lots of support from the breastfeeding support workers over the years, most recently with my youngest son who is now 12 months old. I had a lot of support with my eldest too.

This time feeding was particularly challenging - tongue tie, pain, concerns over weight gain. It took a massive toll on my mental health.

I initially received a phone call and them multiple in person home visits to check his feeding and support me with position and attachment, maximising milk transfer and looking for signs feeding was going well.

We are breastfeeding still at 1 year, and I fed my oldest for 4 years. I can confidently say without the support from the team that would not have happened.

They are angels. They are fantastic. The service is beyond invaluable and amazing for breastfeeding parents.

Dear L123,

Thank you for writing about your experience following the birth of your son. I am sorry to hear that feeding was very difficult for you at that time. Experiencing pain and having worries about your baby's wellbeing definitely takes it's toll mentally and physically. I am glad you were able to receive the support you needed to overcome those issues and continue breastfeeding for as long as you wanted to.

I hope you are proud of your achievement and perseverance through that difficult time too! Thank you so much for your kind words and honest feedback - I will ensure this is shared with the team.

Warm regards,
Louise
