"Disabled parking spaces"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital (Belfast)

(as a service user),

Disabled car spaces taken up by cars with no badges. Basically large expensive cars with no respect for anyone. Met a lady crying, she had waited over an hour to get disabled space and had missed appointment with her husband’s consultant. She was terribly distressed and had counted large numbers of cars without badges. It is sad to witness people so distressed just because of an uncaring public.

Dear Robert 281,

Please accept my apologies for your recent car parking experience on the RVH site and how this affected this Lady attending an appointment on time. As a car parking Team on the BHSCT sites, our car-parking attendants regularly visit the disabled areas in our public car parks and will actively discourage the public not to use these spaces unless they have a blue badge.

They also will leave a notice on a window screen of potential offenders. However, we are dependent on the compliance of the public to adhere to the use of clearly marked disabled bays.

The BHSCT are currently working with a new regional contractor on enforcement throughout all hospital sites and it is hoped that this will improve compliance with disabled parking.

Kind regards

Susan Garland.
