"I am feeling really let down with this experience."

About: Mental Health / Community Mental Health Team

(as a service user),

I first visited my GP enquiring about a possible ADHD diagnosis in June 2022.

It is currently August 2024. I’m around number 18 on the waiting list for an assessment.

My symptoms are destroying my life, I’m unable to function and have missed out on earnings, failed a year of university and had to move back home with  my parents. I therefore keep phoning to see where I am on the list, and can see how slowly it is moving in real time.

I cannot understand why there are so few assessments being done when the waiting list is over 2 years long. There is less than 1 person being seen per day, yet 1000s are waiting to be seen.

This is a disability that has profound impacts on functioning, and people are left to suffer alone without support for years. I am feeling really let down with this experience.
