"Forever grateful for my home birth experience"

About: Vale of Leven General Hospital / Community Maternity Unit Vale of Leven General Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was under the care of an absolutely fantastic team of midwives when expecting my fourth baby recently in the Vale of Leven Hospital. With two previous EMCS and one VBA2C, my midwives were supportive of my wishes for a homebirth from the beginning.

I had an unexpected major surgery halfway through my pregnancy and was given amazing care and my plans for homebirth were continually monitored. As someone who has felt really let down by the maternity system in the past, my care this time around was exemplary and my midwives truly did care about me and discussed how we could make my birthing experience as positive as possible, discussing what would make me most comfortable and happy in all possible birthing outcomes so that I felt included and in control of my birth regardless.

On the night I went into labour, there was only one midwife available due to staff illness. The midwives phoned around and an amazing midwife offered to come and assist with my homebirth so that it could go ahead.

Our baby was born at home after the most amazing, restorative and healing birth experience for me. I will never have the words to thank those two midwives for enabling me to achieve the birth experience I have always dreamed of.

My postpartum care was incredible. The midwives came out to the house and were so friendly, thorough, reassuring and amazing at referring to other services when I had an issue with a trapped nerve postpartum. I honestly could not have wished for more fantastic care from the midwife team and they have truly made my entire experience absolutely wonderful.

We saw a lot of midwives throughout our pregnancy journey but would especially like to thank Paula, Yvonne, Angela and Leslie. Without them, I would not have had the most beautiful birth experience with my little boy.

I finally got to experience the birth I had always wanted and dreamed of and I will forever be grateful to the wonderful women who helped to make this possible. Their care, compassion, knowledge and passion for their profession was evident throughout every step of my pregnancy and they are an absolute credit to their hospitals and to the NHS.

Thank you so much. x
