The care our dad received from all of the staff was excellent. The staff were also very accommodating when the family came to visit. There was a huge improvement in his physical ability from the time he left the stroke ward at Foresterhill to the time he was discharged. This was down to the hard work of the nursing, OT and physio staff.
Having the stroke and moving from hospital was a traumatic time and on may occasions he would become extremely emotional with any changes to his routine, when new visitors came or if there were changes to the staff with some leaving and others coming in.
The only comment I would make would be, that in addition to the physical therapy which the patients undergo, some thought should be given to their mental rehabilitation as well. Many of the patients will be older people who do not adapt well to changes in their environment and who would benefit from some form of mental wellbeing as well.
Overall the experience we had with our dad's rehabilitation was exemplary.
