"The Long Return to Work"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Occupational Therapy

(as a service user),

To aid in my journey in returning to employment, I engaged solely with Occupational Services at my local GP surgery.

We looked at key areas to identify obstacles between my current day-to-day life and my goal of returning to working life; e.g. Mental Health, Fitness.

At each appointment, I would detail progress made since our last meeting, share difficulties/concerns/issues, and leave with guidance, support and strategies to engage these obstacles.

Each appointment served also as indicators; allowing me to see real progress from one to the next.

Overall I found the experience extremely beneficial. I gained confidence, tools to cope with stresses, and quality of life. I felt listened to, supported and encouraged.

I came out of the service as a better person, and I feel that the chasm between my previous state and a sustainable working life has closed tremendously thanks to my efforts in tandem with my Occupational Therapist.

I am grateful beyond words for the support of the service.

Dear SquirrelsInATrenchcoat

Many thanks for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experiences of working alongside one of our occupational therapists in Primary Care.

I am delighted to read your story and pleased you have found the support offered helpful in returning to work and improving work life balance.

Could I ask which surgery you are linked to and name of OT involved in your care as would be keen to share this lovely feedback with the staff member and GP surgery. In meantime I will share your post with the team. All feedback regarding our service is always gratefully received. It is always lovely to know the support offered has made a difference.

May I take this opportunity to wish you well,

Amanda

Dear SquirrelsInATrenchcoat,

This was heartening to read the way in which sole intervention from Occupational Therapy has helped and some of the detail around the areas of impact such as mental health and fitness. It sounds as though that collaborative approach which you have engaged in has been really beneficial.

Wish you very well in your ongoing recovery.

Thank you for taking the time.

Lesley
