My 11 year old daughter has been a regular visitor to Westmarc Glasgow for the past 8 years as a full time wheelchair user.
She needs a Changing Places toilet with a bench and hoist to have her personal care needs met and unbelievably Westmarc don’t have one of these facilities in their Glasgow building. The solution to this is to either change her on a plinth in a consulting room or to wait until after our appointment and walk over to the hospital. Neither of these options are dignified or pleasant for my daughter or the staff or the other clients coming into the room after us.
It is so disappointing that a service which exists to meet the needs of wheelchair users and amputees cannot meet their care needs when they are in for appointments which can be lengthy.
Our experiences with Westmarc OTs and bioengineers and reception staff have been nothing but outstanding and yet on every visit the shadow of possibly having to figure out how to deal with toileting is there.
I emailed Westmarc directly about a changing places toilet last November and received no response.
