This clinic appears to be under severe pressure, probably due to lack of facilities, staff and/or funding - I don’t know - but my last injection due 8-weekly was delayed by 2 weeks after ringing constantly myself and help from the Macular Society despite my eyesight having deteriorated vastly at 6 weeks post injection, which has been the pattern this year.
After having live imaging it was deemed I should continue to get injections 8-weekly going forward. Initially, after having an injection I was seeing the improvement in my eyesight 1 week post injection but after even 2 week delays I have noticed the sight taking up to 2-3 weeks to stabilise and still at 6 weeks post injection my eyesight is very blurred and again no appointments are available either sooner or at the 8-week date and again with the help of the Macular Society I have an appointment for 9 days after the due date.
I have been told several times that there are patients with central vision in only one eye, whilst I have still relatively good sight in one eye and of course I appreciate that is the case but at the same time I fear that I may find myself in the same situation as those patients as research suggests the importance of getting timely injections and further loss of vision cannot be regained.
The initial diagnosis itself is devastating to say the least never mind the worry and anxiety when the vision drops markedly at 6 weeks post injection and it becomes necessary to start ringing to get an appointment which just isn’t available.
I appreciate the staff in the clinic work very hard under such pressures but awareness needs to be raised at a higher level in this extremely busy, seemingly under funded area to help save eyesight.
