"Ridiculously long wait"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My mother is currently sitting in accident and emergency at wishaw general, she has been sitting here for coming up on 10hours with a split head that needs to be glued. Her bloods were taken 9 hours ago and she was told they would be back in about an hour and then they'd get her head glued. Still waiting at 4am having been here since 6.30pm. Disgraceful when so many who arrived hours later have been and gone. I think someone needs to take a good look at how this department is being run and fix it.

Dear Joanne85

Thank you for sharing your recent experience of our Emergency Department at Wishaw. I am sorry to hear of your mothers poor experience and would like to apologise for the lengthy wait she had to wait to be seen within our exceptionally busy department. All patients are seen in clinical priority and can only apologise that this resulted in a delay to your mothers assessment.

We take all concerns from our patients very seriously and we are working on a range of improvements to reduce waits within the Emergency Department and will continue to progress with these initiatives.

If you wish to discuss this further it would be helpful if you could contact our Patient Affairs department so they can understand the issues in more detail and respond to you personally. You can contact them by email: PatientAffairs.Wishaw@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk or by phone: 01698 366 558.

Best wishes

Faith
