"Poor basic patient care"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Acute Receiving Unit (Units 1-5)

(as a relative),

My dad was admitted to ARU 5 recently. During this time he was supposed to be on  strict fluid balance. As a nurse myself, I was deeply concerned when I then attended the unit  and found that the urine bottle that had been given to my dad the evening before to monitor his output was still in his bathroom filled with urine. What concerned me more was the fact his bins were full from the previous day and he hadn’t been provided a towel for a shower despite asking. This is the most basic of basic care which was not being met. I am upset that this has been the case as during previous admissions to QEUH he has had amazing care.

Definitely areas to be improved on, I understand the stress staff are under, however, this is the most basic care that should be provided to patients.

Dear Cubesb96

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. I was very sorry to hear about your Dad’s experience within the Acute Receiving Unit and I sincerely apologise for the very poor care and experience that you describe.

To allow for your concerns to be fully reviewed, could I please ask you to contact my colleague, Marie Austin, Lead Nurse, Acute Receiving – marie.austin@nhs.scot.

With thanks and best wishes

Linda
