"I do not like machines to check in"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Urology

(as a service user),

I do not like machines to check in. I am partially sighted so cannot manage on my own.

No receptionist at the time of check in but they came a bit later.

The machine told me I was too early for check in, but I had to allow time to get the car parked as very few spaces available.

Thank you for your feedback about your experience of checking into your recent appointment.

Since we started using an electronic system for patient notes, we have been able to install check-in kiosks in our outpatient areas to try and allow patients to check themselves in rather than have to go to a reception desk.

Whilst some patients like these kiosks, we know that these kiosks are not suitable for everyone, particularly those with additional needs or partial sightedness. We have made sure that we keep reception staff in our outpatient areas to try and make sure patients are able to check in to their appointment in the way that suits them best, although I am sorry to hear that there was no-one available when you arrived for your appointment.

As a Trust, we are reviewing how we manage reception, patient check-ins, and more broadly the overall patient experience of outpatient services. We will make sure that the the issues you have raised here are taken into account and that we consider all patient groups when planning our services.

I can look further into your particular experience if you email rduh.generaloutpatients@nhs.net with further information about where and when your appointment was.

Many thanks,

Tom
