"Still waiting to be seen"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I had covid in December 2020, but it was mild for me, my partner was hospitalised for 8 days with covid.

I received my first vaccine in the March 2021 and have had 5 further of phizer.

My daughter noticed l was squinting a lot after l had my first vaccine, and l thought it was maybe a habit l had started unknowingly.

It was getting worse and that summer l had made 4 appointments with my opticians, my eyesight was fine, l said it wasn't my sight it was my eyelids, they tried to refer me to an opthalmologist, but they wouldn't see me as my eyesight was fine.

I kept checking things online why is this happening and came up with blepharospasm, as soon as l saw it l knew that was what l had.

Fast forward my own doctor had to see me first before referring me to a neurologist at Ninewells.

After many months of taking videos of my condition and seeing a further movement neurologist, it was determined l had benign essential blepharospasm and apraxia.

I have had a lot of rounds of botox in my eyelids from a specialist nurse at Ninewells and have an open appointment with the movement neurologist, they have given me medication, to no effect.

I am still waiting to be seen by an ophthalmologist in Ninewells, my specialist nurse advised me that Ninewells is going to have a ocuplastic ophthalmologist at end of August.

I have asked if l can be referred to this specialist hopefully soon.

I had private surgery in Glasgow from an ocuplastic ophthalmologist in September last year for the procedure of eyelids myectomy and blepharoplasty, to no avail.

I am functionally blind, l can't drive anymore, can't go out on my own without linking in to someone and holding my left eyelid with my left-hand fingers and constantly looking at the ground and also in my home and trying to watch some TV.

Please can you give me some advice.

I think and hopefully when l see an opthamologist, the last resort would be frontal slings on my eyelids.
