I woke up one morning feeling quite odd, went downstairs saw one of my feet was dragging. I telephoned my daughter, explained what was happening and she called an ambulance. I was admitted to Ninewells hospital for one week. I was then transferred to Letham ward at Cameron hospital.
From there my recovery began, from day one I had physiotherapy, I worked alongside Occupational therapists to gain skills for daily life. I could not read a word after my stroke but I could talk, understood all that was going on, later discovered I was forgetting things. Working with OT has helped me begin to read again and is improving everyday.
Within the ward the food was wonderful, just to my liking. I was able to have a walk and sit in the therapy garden, lots of things to stimulate my mind, being outside meant an awful lot to me, fresh air, sunshine everything being outdoors offers.
The staff are all very good, in particular the older staff, they took time out their day to talk with me, and advise me. Everyone went over and above, especially Mary, she helped me with a problem I had. Sarah Jane is also a good listener. Claire had a good sense of humour, she was very knowledgeable and correct and that was important to me. Kelly was also good with me, going over things with me in the garden. Overall I have had the best of care. Well done Letham Ward.
