My daughter developed a stammer at 4 and was referred through the school in P1 for SLT support. We had a very speedy referral and were contacted very quickly 2 months later. I’m aware of the current waiting lists for speech and language so was grateful for the stammer pathway that she was picked up quickly. The therapist was excellent and was able to highlight key concerns I had and offer support through communication with the school and also online resources I can access as a parent.
We had regular appointments to follow up on progress and I felt very well supported through the process. The therapist also acted as a great intermediary between myself and the school and the head teacher fed back about the resources she provided being helpful to staff for my child but also others which I felt grateful for.
I have used SLT for my older son also, a different speech impediment, but would want to highlight that the staff have been excellent on both occasions. My oldest was during C19 pandemic and we utilised online appointments and PPE for face to face appointments.
I’m aware of the staffing challenges and waiting list times but going through the service twice it’s been excellent and the staff are the reason for this.
I’m very grateful for Leigh and Sarah as both my children’s speech therapists and the difference it’s made for them.
