"The support I have received has been magnificent"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde New Stobhill Hospital / Physiotherapy New Stobhill Hospital / Speech & Language Therapy

(as a service user),

In February 2024 I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Because of symptoms I'd had for some time, the diagnosis did not come as a surprise. In a way I was relieved to know what was wrong. The doctor I saw that day could not have been more helpful.

There was so much information to take on board that I left that consultation feeling overwhelmed by the need to learn so much. I was glad there was a Parkinson's nurse in attendance as I was told I could contact her any time.

Since them I have felt as though I've taken on part-time job. That's what living with PD feels like. There have been so many hospital appointments, booklets to read, exercises to do, information to take on board and changes to get used to. Throughout it all, the support I have received has been magnificent.

I've just met my GP once and she was care personified. She did me good.

My PD Consultant answered my questions and I felt confident in her.

The one or two occasions I've contacted the PD nurse has resulted in me getting the information I needed promptly.

My Physiotherapist took time to consider all my needs. Because I have been disabled for decades, sorting out suitable exercises was a little complicated. I'm presently attending a PD exercise class at Stobhill Hospital and am finding it most helpful. When that course finishes I intend going to one in the community.

My speech and choking were issues with me and the care and attention I have received from my Speech and Language Therapist has been so helpful and caring. I really can't express my gratitude.

It is hugely helpful to know that I can contact these professionals if, and when I need them.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us such positive feedback Privileged. I'm sure it must feel so overwhelming to try to take in all the information about your condition, but I'm glad you have felt well supported throughout all your many appointments.
I will certainly pass on your gratitude to the Speech & Language Therapy team at the New Stobhill Hospital. It means a lot to our staff to know that they have been able to help to someone in what can be such a difficult journey. As you say, you know how to contact us and that we are here for you if you have any need of us in the future.

Dear Privileged

Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like you’ve been through a lot, It’s understandable to feel overwhelmed with all the new information and changes, but it’s heartening to hear about the incredible support you’ve received from the staff.

It’s wonderful that you have such a supportive network, from your GP and PD Consultant to your Physiotherapist and Speech and Language Therapist.

I am glad that you are finding the exercise class helpful and it is great that you are already planning to attend classes in the community.

Thank you so much for your feedback.

Best Wishes
