My partner had been discharged from ward 28 RVH. At 9pm ambulance arrived to take him home so I left as I had my car. At 9.45pm ambulance staff called to say meds weren’t ready &they had to leave. I drove back to ward as they wouldn’t answer phone to find out what was happening. Just at that time the 2 ambulance staff came back to take him home with his meds at 10.45pm telling me that patient flow was very rude to them about waiting on patient to go home as there was someone from theatre needing the bed.
I had been on ward from 8.30am & he was discharged but when ambulance arrive at 8.50pm there becomes an issue with meds & pharmacy close at 9pm. I would really appreciate if I could get the name of the patient flow staff regarding this discharge. This patient arrived home at 11pm on stretcher with ambulance staff missing his care package that the ward had restated for the 2nd time without him at home. He has a brain injury & needed to be hoisted by 2 people & needed pad changed & put into bed which needs to be done by 2 people.
I hope this patient flow team were happy with this as I’m still horrified at the empathy they showed that night. How would they feel if a family member was arriving home from hospital at 11pm with no way to get into bed or have pad changed.
