"My recovery from a motorcycle accident"

I had a motorcycle accident whilst on tour with my son and brother and some friends. When I came into hospital I knew I had done something bad to myself. It turned out that I had broken seven ribs and fractured my spine at L2. I couldn’t walk and putting any weight on my right leg was unbearable.

Having had scans and X-rays my problems were diagnosed and I was admitted to the Major Trauma Ward. The staff and the patients were very caring and supportive and made it possible for me to take being five hundred miles away from all my family and friends in my stride.

After a delay over the first weekend while the spinal team at Glasgow reviewed my X-rays, it was decided that I didn’t need an operation and I was fitted with a back brace. The doctors and nurses then found the best medicine to help me with the pain and I was out of bed with the help of various walking frames later that week.

I am into week 2 and I am able to walk with crutches and will soon be discharged. I consider myself very fortunate that my accident was up here north of the border where the people are so wonderful. They fixed me up and made sure I was ready to go home in an amazing time frame and I am so very grateful to each and every one of them.
