I had a bad penetration injury to my right leg, bumping hard accidentally into a metal spike in my garage. It was very sore, but I only realised it was severe when I noticed my boot was squelching: it was full of blood! My leg was also very painful.
I was driven to my local community hospital in St Andrews, Fife, and had rapid and expert treatment. It was calm, reassuring and expert. I had several further rounds of treatment, over two weeks, complicated by the relativity slow recovery of the wound, because of my age.
At that point, I was pronounced fit to go on holiday, provided I got medical help with the wound while away. I followed this advice, and on return went back to my home hospital. They pronounced me cured. Brilliant! That return to St Andrews community hospital was great. I was recognised cheerily by members of staff, who did a final examination, including a final re-dressing of the wound.
They gave me very clear, and easy to understand further advice. This was on the attention to the wound that could be be done simply at home, based on their advice, until full recovery. I can't praise enough the staff and their person-to-person skills and medical expertise. A keen runner, I am now able to recommence my runs on the East Sands of St Andrews - a blissful activity.
Thanks to all who made this possible!
