"Cleanliness outside hospital"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital Promoting Well Being

(as a friend),

I am writing at the state of the front of Craigavon Hospital, it is a complete mess. Cigarette butts litter the main door and the doors of ED. The smell of cigarette smoke in the main foyer is overpowering.

I was here recently and the same cups full of old butts were still here. It looked like it is never cleaned. There was litter all around and under the ramp where ambulance patients are admitted and litter all along the pathway from Blossom down to the Out of Hours.

The litter when I visited most recently included a bed pan, a bag for life, a crutch and an incontinence sheet outside the doors of Blossom.

Do better Craigavon and have some pride in your surroundings. How can patients believe that the inside of the hospital is clean when the outside is a disgrace?

Dear Mrs Hinch

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this feedback and apologies for the delay in responding. I am the Care Opinion Facilitator for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust and I have discussed your comments with our Estates Department. The problem with litter outside our hospitals is an ongoing issue. Our colleagues in the Estates Department have assured us that they have staff who are currently working to improve this situation and also working towards finding a longer term solution to this problem. Hopefully this work will demonstrate an improvement in this situation, which we agree is not acceptable.

Kind Regards

Christine Armstrong

Dear Mrs Hinch - further to the previous response above I wanted to provide an update from our estates department.

Whilst we recognise that the issue with litter outside our hospitals is an ongoing one, there have been significant improvements made with regular collections of litter bins and ongoing litter picking completed by the Estates teams.

We thank you again for your feedback

Best wishes

Christine
