"I felt this was a waste of my time"

About: Omagh Primary Care Complex / Physiotherapy

(as a parent/guardian),

I was 10 minutes early for an appointment in the Physio department in Omagh Hospital recently.

I wasn’t seen until 20 minutes after my appointment time. I was given no explanation as to why I had to wait. The physio didn’t know what the problem was with my daughter’s hand.

I felt this was a waste of my time as I now have to return in a few weeks for an ultrasound which in my opinion should have been done in the first place.

Dear Mary B,

Thank you for taking time to give us your feedback on your recent experience when attending the Physiotherapy Department with your daughter. Your feedback is very important as it helps us to try to improve our service if at all possible.

I am sorry that you were delayed when you arrived for the appointment. Unfortunately these ICATS orthopaedic clinics can run behind schedule due to the complex needs of the patients attending these clinics. Our practitioners do try their very best to try to stay on time with patient appointments but its is not always possible. We realise that it is very frustrating as a patient to be delayed when waiting for an appointment especially when you had attended early for this appointment and we apologise for any inconvenience you experienced.

In addressing your concerns that you felt this appointment was a waste of time can I advise that it is very important that a clinical face to face appointment is carried out prior to ordering any further tests or imaging. This is to ensure the correct imaging is requested in order to help with diagnosis and further management.

There is no capacity to carry out imaging at initial appointments. There is a waiting list for Ultrasound imaging.

Again I thank you for your feedback and I would be happy to answer any of your concerns directly should you wish to make contact with the ICATS practitioner who you seen at the clinic or contact myself directly by leaving your details with the ICATS central booking team.

Regards

Gerda Laird
