"A core confidence course"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Cancer Services

(as a service user),

I was referred for the Core Confidence Course, provided by a physiotherapist Rachel, following abdominal surgery for bowel cancer. At the point of referral I was very unsure about returning to normal activities, although I was starting to become more active.

Rachel set a good pace for the 8 week course building in activity and exercises as the weeks went by. She also was able to (in the small group situation) address individual issues or limitations around the set exercises.

By the end of the course I was much more confident in myself and am now nearly exercising as I was before my procedure.

Within the small group we were all able to support each other and also had time to listen to their stories and so I then was able to have some context to deal with my own recovery.

Such an invaluable course for me and I’m sure the others on the course and all provided by the NHS. I do feel that without it my activity levels and recovery would be much slower and I would be nowhere near as confident in getting back to exercising.

Thank you Rachel

Sorry for my slow response - I've been on annual leave and missed your review initially.

Thank you so much for this feedback- it's wonderful to hear what you found helpful so that we can continue to shape the course. I'm so glad you're feeling more confident and found so much benefit in the peer support within the group.

All the best with your continued recovery!

Rachel
