"Feel let down and neglected"

About: Salford Royal / Neurology Salford Royal / Pain Management

(as a service user),

I’ve been suffering with severe nerve pain for almost 6 years. Imagine being doused in petrol and set alight. That level of pain.

The treatment has been painstakingly slow. I was supposed to be referred to a pain clinic by my neurologist. However, this obviously hasn’t happened so I’ve had to have my GP email twice for a response, to no avail. The GP has pushed for a referral to the pain clinic after all this, but this has further delayed everything.

I am in excruciating daily pain. I can’t work, I can barely move. I haven’t left the house except to see the doctor. I’m essentially rotting away and receiving zero support.

I missed an appointment last year due to not being able to move due to being in agony and the neurologist described it as wasn’t feeling too good. I feel it’s insulting and disgusting how neglectful the service has been.

Dear Service User

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience, along with the frustration you have felt waiting for a referral to the pain clinic. We are sorry to hear about the unbearable pain you have been in during this time, all which you have endured without support.

It sounds like this has been an extremely difficult and challenging period however without any specific information related to your case, we are not in a position to try and expediate your referral or appointment.

In order for us to look into this matter in more detail, we would advise you to urgently contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) either via 0161 778 5665 between 09:30 hours and 16:30 hours Monday to Friday, drop into one of the PALS offices on each hospital site, or email: pals@nca.nhs.uk. The PALS team will then request the relevant department investigates and provides you with the necessary response and advice.

Kind Regards

The Patient Experience Team

Update posted by Rambo92 (a service user)

Hello,

What exactly will contacting PALS achieve? I’ve emailed PALS previously, a pretty deep message and received a generic response.

The clinic has my pain questionnaire, apparently but that’s the last I’ve heard of it.

Thanks
