In summer 2023 my teenage daughter presented with significant anxiety. We contacted our GP Dr Wilson at Lochee who quickly referred her to Dundee CAMHS.
We were accepted onto the waitlist and reviewed by initial consultation by Anais in late 2023. We were referred for assessment for autism under the neurodevelopment team and assign to have input to help with anxiety. My daughter started sessions with Marianne in April/May. My daughter had fortnightly sessions, with support strategies provided which have been extremely helpful. We also had additional support through the sensory online training and the parent portal. During this time Marianne gathered information using a very thorough questionnaire and observations as well as gathering info from school. This was then discussed with the diagnosis team and Speech and language specialist Judi as part of the autism team. My daughter was given a diagnosis of Autism at the end of July.
It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind but we can’t fault the process and how seamless things have been as I know that is not everyone’s experience with the process.
We want to thank all involved with my daughter's care and for the speed at which this happened, we are extremely grateful for the care we’ve been provided. We were kept informed of the plan at all times. It helped her to understand why she experienced this in a certain way, has helped support her through exam time and helped us as parents to understand what she needs especially as she is moving into early adulthood.
I hope this feedback helps those who make decisions at CAMHS to know that this new process worked extremely well for us and hopefully other families in Dundee can benefit from it too.
