I was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the end of May this year having had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks earlier. My treatment plan involved radiotherapy 5 days a week and chemo tablets taken twice daily also for 5 weeks.
Although living in the west of Scotland, I was advised that I could start treatment sooner if I travelled to the Western in Edinburgh to have it done. My view was that the sooner I started, the sooner I'd be finished so at the start of July I started my daily commute to the Western in Edinburgh.
I've now completed my treatment plan and await the next stage of the process (MRI in a couple of weeks time, and then hopefully an operation to remove the tumour about 4-6 weeks after that).
I have to say that my experience so far has been a really positive one. From my early checks at Stobhill and the Royal in Glasgow, to the treatment in the Western in Edinburgh, the speed at which the process has been executed and the friendly, caring, and reassuring nature of every health care professional that I've encountered, without exception, has helped me retain a positive attitude throughout.
I'm in 2 minds about singling out individuals for praise since anyone who's not mentioned might think they in some way fell short. This couldn't be further from the truth. I am grateful to every single health care worker but Carol in car park 6 and Rachael in the Radiography department deserve special mention - you're simply the best! ❤️
