"Turned out to be a well-oiled machine"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency Medway Maritime Hospital / General surgery

(as a service user),

I have Crohn's disease and was suffering from increasing pain. 111 requested I attended A&E.

On arrival at A&E after booking in I was initially annoyed by the fact without triage I was sent round to meddoc. However upon presenting at meddoc, on discovery of how much distress I was in I was taken straight through to triage who immediately arranged a doctor to see me.

I was then transferred within an hour to Medical Decisions Unit, again when triaged and uncovering how acutely unwell I was doctors were called to see me and began treatment.

After being in the hospital for less than the five hours predicted to be the wait time in A&E I had been taken for an urgent CT scan and was in a high dependency surgical bed.

Despite my initial feelings of being pushed out of A&E I now acknowledge that the pathways adopted click into motion and when medically necessary the wheels move very quickly.
