"Kind and caring team for flexible cystoscopy"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

Went in to the unit at 2pm. Checked in very quickly and asked to wear a wristband.

Then I had a chat with Nicola who explained my procedure and asked me to sign a consent form. I was weighed, height taken and answered many health questions. This was all done in a very relaxed atmosphere. Nicola made me feel confident about the up and coming cystoscopy experience.

Then I was taken to a waiting area where there were other patients. It was about an hour and a half wait but all was good. There was a problem with another patient I believe that caused some commotion and the time delay but the nurses acted professionally and did not let it phase them, we were advised by them of the time delay.

These nurses and admin staff have my admiration in the way they work under pressure but always have time to help their patients and treat them with courtesy.

When eventually I went in for my procedure with Mr Evans and his team they soon got me sorted. He explained the procedure as he did the cystoscopy and allowed me to watch all on the screen above the couch. It was not painful just a little uncomfortable. The nurses were kind and caring and made me comfortable before and after the event.

After a quick chat with Mr Evans I was led to the recovery area and offered a drink. After 15 minutes I was issued with my report and an advice sheet about possible health issues that might occur after the procedure and then allowed to leave the unit. I felt that everything was done properly and professionally.

Well done and thanks everyone, you are all amazing.
