Took my partner to A&E as he was experiencing severe stomach pains which matched the symptoms of possible appendicitis.
We first spoke to the receptionist who asked asked whether we had been to see the GP. I said no, and felt we got the typical receptionist eye roll because getting a GP appointment seems difficult these days.
We then saw the triage nurse fairly quickly who arranged for bloods to be taken or so we thought, about an hour and a half went by before I had to chase the bloods to be taken only to find out that the nurse did not put them on the system until 10 minutes before.
The A&E doctor was really nice and explained everything through, prescribed appropriate pain medication and fluids before arranging our transfer to AAA.
We saw a surgeon late in the night, he had sent us home that night asking us to come back in for the following morning to see another surgeon.
When we arrived, we checked in at the AAA with the lovely receptionist. We then met with some lovely nurses. Suddenly (who I believe was) the on call surgeon for the day came in, looked at the list and started huffing and sighing about it and checking where the patients had come from and why they were there.
These comments were made within earshot of the three patients that were waiting for a surgical review and they along with the sighing were completely unprofessional and inappropriate. It could have made the patients waiting feel uneasy and uncomfortable which is not something anyone needs whilst waiting to hear if they require surgery or not.
