"I honestly don't think I would be here without the support I received from this team"

About: Allied Health Professionals / Physiotherapy

(as a service user),

I suffered multiple fractures in a car accident and was feeling exceptionally vulnerable due to difficulties at work. Maeve listened so attentively to me at the introductory session during which I talked about this sense of vulnerability which I had not acknowledged to myself before this conversation made me realise how mentally broken I was feeling.

She took someone who felt that they had lost any value to the world as it currently functions and couldn't see any reason to stay in it and she gave me back hope that I could be whole again.

Maeve made me laugh so much during our focused discussions about what physio would be needed - we were talking about how keen the consultants were for their patients to feel pain and through this agreed a regular but often set of mobility enhancing exercises which over the course of the first three weeks paid enormous dividends in terms of recovering the lost hope and with morphine, cocodemol and finally just paracetamol, I could ensure that my hip (especially) was able to function.

I was so unhappy about not being able to cycle, Maeve put me in a bike machine with a bucket seat and over the course of the subsequent few weeks got me used to a saddle.

Although my final meeting wasn't with Maeve, the colleague who took over from her had a similarly supportive disposition and knowing that I had access to a good gym at work printed off a comprehensive set of notes relating to those exercises most appropriate to the injuries.

I had difficulties getting to appointments either due to traffic or a  poor sense of direction from the Falls Road and both Maeve and Chris facilitated a productive session even when truncated.

I honestly don't think I would be here without the support I received from this team and since I got my new bike 3 weeks ago I have managed over 500 km.

Thankyou so much everyone..

Dear Chiron's child

Thank you so much for taking time to post this brilliant feedback on the care you received by our excellent Fracture Team in RVH.

As the Lead for Fracture Physiotherapy team as you can guess I'm very proud of them and delighted that you had a positive rehab experience in the gym.

I have passed your compliment on to both the Maeve and Chris who always go above and beyond for their patients so it's great for that to recognised. They are both invaluable members of the Team who will appreciate the acknowledgement.

Despite your trauma experience I'm glad in your rehab you could laugh and feel listened to. I wish you a continued successful in your recovery and enjoy the cycling!

Best Wishes

Louis O'Connor (Team Lead Physio Fractures)
