"Came out of the appointment nervous and totally uninformed"

About: Causeway Hospital / Fetal Maternal Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

As a first-time mum, every appointment I get nervous and hope the doctors can explain everything I need to know. Unfortunately, this hasn't been the case. My husband and I recently went for our 31-week scan. We came out of the appointment very nervous and feeling totally uninformed. The doctor hadn't explained anything. When my husband asked questions (1st time dad), they mumbled answers so we couldn't understand or hear them. All we gathered from the appointment was that i have too much fluid around the baby and that I would need to do another diabetes test. The first 1 came back negative week 27. They didn't say if the heartbeat was good or if the baby is ok. I left the car park very upset and anxious.

Dear Abz404,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. As the Lead for Causeway maternity department I am saddened to hear of your experience.

Due to the anonymous platform of care opinion I am unable to comment on individual care. You will find my contact details at the end and I would really like the opportunity to talk to you in further detail around your experience so learning can be highlighted.

I apologise for the care you received and the way it made and your husband feel, once again thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback,

I hope to hear from you,

Best Wishes,

Rachel Chakravarti
