Following a fall while running on holiday I was diagnosed in France as having a broken ankle and supplied with a walking boot and medication. Advice was to seek accident and emergency assessment on arriving home so attended Coleraine A&E dept. 10 days later.
Staff were efficient at reception and I was seen via the Green Zone after admission. Finbar did an assessment of my ankle before sending me for X-ray where radiologist worked quickly to get results sent back through. Finbar did a follow up explaining a new diagnosis of severe sprain as opposed to a break and said a follow up call would be made to me within 24hr, if needed, as he would further consult with radiology team regarding my injury. A rigid bandage was applied (to be worn for 5 days) and I was discharged.
Total process was 1hr 10 mins which was beyond my expectation. Finbar and the team were friendly, professional and put me at ease, sensing my anxiety and being nervous to bear weight on my foot after being given an amended diagnosis and being told the original support boot was no longer a requirement. He also gave me a follow up number to call him at the Green Zone during his shift the next day should I wish to discuss symptoms or outcome further. Thanks to Finbar and the extended team for the support and advice … I’m hoping the follow up call won’t be needed!
