"Incorrect record says I missed my breast screening"

I attended the unit in Tower Hill, Armagh, yesterday for my breast screening appointment as stated on my invitation letter. I was met by a lady who advised that I wasn’t on the list and that my record showed a recent DNA.

I could not understand this as the only appointment letter I had and brought with me was for the above date. I was at this point concerned that I had taken time out of work for an appointment that I wasn’t sure was going happen and I appeared to have a record on the system suggesting I didn’t turn up for a previous recent appointment. I can assure you I have never missed a medical appointment and am not happy that such a record is on the system for me.

While the initial experience yesterday was quite stressful, the matter which was subsequently taken over by Nicky was managed with great care and effectiveness. She advised on contact with the admin team that the mix up was at their end. Nicky booked and carried out my appointment while I was there.

I am very grateful to Nicky for the manner in which she dealt with this situation. Her care and consideration was very evident throughout and clearly demonstrated the values of the Southern Trust.

I have received a further communication today advising that I missed my appointment and offering me the opportunity to re-book. I really would appreciate a contact on the back of this advising  that the DNA notice is removed from my record.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of our Breast service. As lead radiographer for the breast team within the southern health and social care trust it is so reassuring for me to read your very positive comments.

I will ensure this feedback is shared with all members of the breast team, especially Nicky who you have mentioned.

All members of the breast team strive to deliver the highest standard of care during these times, and it is very encouraging to hear this standard is being provided and has been positive for patients.

I am sorry to hear that you have been informed of a recent DNA to the appointment which seems to be an error and I apologise for the distress this may have caused you. I would like to look into the reason why. Can I ask you to call the breast clinic office on 02837560820 so I can get some details from yourself to investigate this.
