I was due to have day surgery at Stobhill hospital for carpal tunnel syndrome. I was up at 6.15am, and arrived for 8am. I was sat in a chair at the side of a trolley/bed, checked in, and had basic checks done. At 10.20 the consultant appeared and marked my arm for identification and said I was on the afternoon list and get something to eat! No suggestion as to where I was to go. The hospital has a cafe, but I was wearing a hospital gown by now.
Eventually I told a nurse what was said, and was offered a roll with butter and jam, and a mug of coffee. It is now 4 hours later I still hadn't had the local anaesthetic prior to surgery!
Why did I have to come in at 8am if on the afternoon list? After 4pm by the time I had had my surgery! Another mug of tea and a packet of custard creams and I can go home.
The staff were all very pleasant but to be in here for 8 hours for a 20 minute procedure is surely a waste of my time and hospital beds and resources.
