I was diagnosed with Spinal stenosis in January 2024 after suffering severe sciatica. I had an MRI which showed a bulging disc, and the holes in my vertebrae through which the nerves travelled, had got smaller due to arthritis, and my nerves were irritated, causing the pain.
After some physiotherapy it was decided that I might benefit from some hydrotherapy, and so I went to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, and had 9 sessions, once a week. Each session lasted 30-45 minutes, one-on-one with a physio, and although it wasn't always the same person, notes were made at each session of my progress, so they knew which exercises I had done from week to week, The warmth of the water and buoyancy were a great help, and the physios were very friendly and helpful.
After the 9 sessions, I was referred back to the original physiotherapist to get advice as to how to maintain the exercises, and make sure I knew where to go to for further exercise options.
If there is one thing that made it difficult, it was the distance away from the parking availability to the hydrotherapy pool which was so long. If mobility is an issue then this certainly does not help. There are several parking options, but none close to the physiotherapy department.
