My Husband was due to have his knee replaced Friday 13th (obviously he is not supersticious) after quite a few appointments beforehand, he went for the pre-op appointment 05.12.13 to be told it would now be cancelled as he had a scratch (not an open wound) on my left leg the op would be on his right leg, however they obviously had there reasons, the problem I have got is that we are going on a holiday of a lifetime to the Usa in Early April 2014, so he wanted to have the op as early as possible so that he would have more than enough time to re-cover, the hospital are aware of this holiday, he has now been told a new appointment would be made for his operation, this would have to be no later than the 2nd week in January, and if this is not possible then he will not be able to have the Op until Autumn 2014 as we have quite a few holidays which are planned for next year. I am so frustrated for my Husband and he was looking forward to being able to enjoy his dream holiday pain free, it does not look as though this is going to happen now. Very frustrating

I am sorry to hear that your husband has had his surgery for his Total Knee Replacement cancelled due to him having a scratch on his leg. It is important when patients are having any joint replacement surgery that we minimise the risk of post-operative infection as much as possible. As your husband had a break in his skin there is the potential for this area to become infected and lead to problems with the newly inserted prosthesis. We hope that your husband is fully fit for his surgery on the date that you have now been given and that you are both still able to enjoy your holiday of a lifetime holiday in the USA. I am also sorry that you feel you have had poor communication from the hospital . If you have any concerns over your husband’s forthcoming admission to hospital please feel free to contact me and I would be more than happy to meet with you either before your husband’s admission or at the time that he is admitted.
