"Very friendly and thorough"

About: Western General Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit Western General Hospital / Radiology

(as a service user),

I recently went to Minor Injuries as I had slipped down some stairs ten days ago and my knee was still swollen and painful.

I didn't have an appointment as I'd rang the department a few days ago to ask if I had to have one to attend and they said no, only if it was very busy would I get sent away with an appointment after triage.

I was waiting about 25 minutes and then the Nurse Practitioner Nicola took me into her room. She was very friendly and thorough and after examining my knee decided an x ray was necessary.

I walked to the x ray department and was seen within 10 minutes. Again very friendly and thorough.

I returned to the Minor Injuries clinic and after a short wait Nicola saw me and went through my results. She wanted Orthopedics to check my x ray and said she would be in touch. She gave me advice on how best to deal with my knee in the meantime.

Later on that day Nicola rang me, she said physiotherapy would be in touch in 2 weeks but if I hadn't heard from them she gave me their phone number. All of this was done by 2pm the same day. Absolutely fantastic service.
