"The treatment I got was fantastic"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Acute Receiving Unit (Units 1-5) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I recently had to attend A&E at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital via ambulance due to a deterioration of my health condition. The ambulance was prompt and the crew were incredibly respectful, empathetic and friendly along with being very professional.

I was incredibly nervous about attending A&E due to its potential busyness and the chaos that brings to A&E. I could not have had a better experience though.

I got straight into a A&E pod and treated promptly by nursing staff and then the doctors came round a bit later but still quite quickly considering they had approximately 4 trauma calls come in while I was there. The treatment I got was fantastic as I have a rare condition and some health professionals do not always understand how urgent and serious it is to treat.

I was then transferred to acute receiving unit to continue with short term inpatient care. I couldn't believe how quickly I got a bed in a ward from A&E. I have always put off going to hospital unless absolutely necessary as I have had many experiences of extremely long waits and issues with understaffing to meet the demands of basic care and needs, but this experience truly made such a difference.

The communication between staff, the treatment, attentiveness and prompt care was all excellent. I couldn't have had a better experience. I am very grateful.

Dear Kikiyon

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that your visit to the A&E at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital was handled with such professionalism and care.

We understand how nerve-wracking an A&E visit can be, especially when dealing with a rare and serious health condition. It’s reassuring to know that our team was able to provide you with quick and effective care in a calm and organised manner despite the challenges of a busy emergency department.

We are particularly pleased that the transition from A&E to the acute receiving unit was smooth and efficient, and that you received the urgent attention and treatment you needed. Your recognition of our staff's communication, attentiveness, and overall care means a lot to us.

Your feedback will be shared with the entire team, and we are sure they will be encouraged by your kind words.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story.

Kind regards

Kevin

Dear Kikiyon,

I was sorry to hear about your recent deterioration and I hope you are feeling much better now. Our staff, and those within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, will really appreciate reading your kind comments about the excellent care you received.

It was great to see you acknowledge their professionalism, empathy, respect and friendliness as these are values which mean a lot to our staff so for them to hear patients such as yourself recognise it is always appreciated.

If you wanted us to track down the crew involved in your care to pass this on directly to them, if you could send in a few more details such as the date, time, address and your full name to sas.feedback@nhs.scot and we'll be able to match it in our system.

Thanks again for taking the time out to post these comments.

We wish you all the very best,

Mark
